Grading Rubric in Physical Education:

 

 "A" Student:

 

  • Student consistently arrives on time, consistently sits quietly in rows, and consistently wears proper attire

  • Student consistently performs to the best of his or her ability

  • Student consistently follows all Panther Promises

  • Displays a high level of performance, understanding, and skills

 

 "B" Student:

 

  • Student usually arrives on time, usually sits quietly in rows, and usually wears proper attire

  • Student usually performs to the best of his or her ability

  • Student usually follows Panther Promises but may need a reminder

  • Displays a moderate understanding of the rules and skills

 

 "C" Student:

 

  • Student sometimes arrives on time, sometimes sits quietly in rows, and sometimes wears proper attire

  • Student sometimes performs to the best of his or her ability, inconsistent effort

  • Student sometimes follows panther promises, needs more than one reminder

  • Needs improvement of understanding of the rules and skills needed

Purpose/Goals of PE Class:

 

     The purpose of physical education in the Oak Hill Middle School is to integrate the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of the individual.  This is accomplished through a carefully planned sequence of

learning experiences including units in aerobics, conditioning, fitness, cooperative games, dance, new games, individual activities and team sports.

 

The Oak Hill physical education curriculum is based on the Four Outcome Statements of the Newton Middle School Curriculum Guide:

 

1.  Students will live out the system wide core value of "Respect for Human Differences" by actively demonstrating anti-racist/anti-bias behaviors.

 

2.  Students apply movement concepts and use fundamental motor skills and combinations of skills in the context of actual performance situations.

 

3.  Students exhibit a physically active lifestyle as they develop and/or maintain a health and skill enhancing level of physical fitness.

 

4.  Students will recognize that physical activity can provide an opportunity for enjoyment, self-expression and social interaction.

 

Achievement Goals for Each Student:

 

1.  Students will demonstrate respect for self, teachers, staff and students.

 

2.  Students will develop the ability to perform team and individual sports.

 

3.  Students will develop the ability to understand and demonstrate strategies.

 

4.  Students will assess personal fitness in terms of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body

composition.

 

5.  Students will understand the concept of goal assessing and goal setting.

 

6.  Students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of specific exercises and activities to promote fitness and good health.

 

7.  Students will appreciate physical performance abilities and limitations of self and others.

 

8.  Students will understand and experience the concept of lifetime fitness skills.
